What to see in the historic centre of Trapani

Among the wonders to admire in the heart of the historic centre we recommend the ancient Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the cathedral of Trapani, built in 1421. A little further on, on the same street, you can admire the Porta Oscura, the oldest gate in the city. This gate opens onto the Loggia and was built in 1200. Above the gate you can admire the "clock tower ", built around 1300, one of the oldest astronomical clocks in Europe.

Among the churches in the historic centre, we advise you not to miss the Church of Sant'Agostino and the Chiesa Anime Sante del Purgatorio, in which the 20 sculptural groups exhibited during the procession of the Mysteries are preserved.

You can admire the beauty of the Dovecote, which changed uses and identity over the centuries and which is currently in a state of neglect, and the mighty Tower of Ligny, which with its beauty divides the Mediterranean Sea from the Tyrrhenian Sea.

If you are curious and love art, you must visit both La Salerniana, the contemporary art museum, with its collection created thanks to the donations of the artists, and the MOOI, the Museum Of Optical Illusion, whose optical illusions indeed are bound to entertain you.
